From Heather Corley, your Guide to Baby Products
Every baby needs car seat, sure. But deciding which one to buy is the challenging part! Should you go for an infant-only bucket seat, or spring for a long-lasting convertible seat right from the start? How do you use the car seat safely? Here are some resources to help you keep your little one safe, right from the start.

Before You Buy an Infant Car Seat
IT's easy to be overwhelmed by the row of infant car seats at the store. Some come with strollers, some with other accessories, and some with barely anything at all. How do you compare? Which features are useful or useless? Here's how to find a car seat that is easy to use, so you're more likely to use it right.

Do I Need an Infant-Only Car Seat?
For some babies, it's possible to skip the infant car seat and go straight to the longer-lasting convertible seat. However, smaller babies may not fit well in a convertible car seat, which could leave you with an unsafe situation until baby grows. Here are some things to consider if you're thinking of skipping the baby bucket seat.

All About Travel Systems
Many first-time parents buy their infant car seat as part of a travel system. When you're buying two big-ticket baby items at once, it's easy to overlook some drawbacks on both. Here's how to buy a travel system that won't drive you crazy in the first few months.

How Long Should Baby Stay Rear-Facing?
The ability to rear-face for a much longer time is one of the biggest advantages of today's convertible car seats. We now have access to car seats that can be used rear-facing up to 40 lbs. That's great, because rear-facing is absolutely the safest position for kids in the car, and we shouldn't be in any hurry to turn them forward.

From Jennifer Wolf, your Guide to Single Parents
Many states now have their own child support calculators available through their Division of Child Support Services web site. And while it's still just an estimate of what you will either owe or receive, getting the information directly from the state is more dependable than using a third-party calculator.
