From Maureen Ryan, your Guide to Toddlers and Twos
I was at a family party this past week and someone asked me how old Little Guy was. I was about to say one but had to stop -- clearly, this running, jumping, "Itsy Bitsy Spider" singing wonder was no longer merely a 1-year-old. "Eighteen months," I said with a mix of pride and nostalgia for the baby days. It reminded me that, especially when your children are young, it's good to stop and take an account of how much they have changed and matured. It's also nice to consider what's coming next for them. Use the links below to explore the milestones you can expect your toddler to reach between ages one and three. Then, join our online community to discuss the joyful moments and feel free to post questions you might have about your child's development. All the best, Maureen

Milestones: 12 Months
Your little one is on the go, crawling, cruising, and maybe even taking a few steps on her own. Plus, there is an explosion of sound coming from your toddler who has learned the elegant art of babble. What other developments can you expect around that first birthday celebration? Read More.

Milestones: 18 Months
In the second year of life, your child's physical development slows down, but the leaps he makes in motor skills, language, social skills, and cognitive capabilities is astounding. By the halfway point, you'll begin to see an independent personality flourish along with these new abilities. Read More.

Milestones: Age 2
Full of energy and ready to test boundaries of all kinds -- from how high he can climb to how many times you might say "no" before you give in -- your 2-year old will keep you on your toes. But, you'll also revel in the magic of her newfound independence, budding literacy skills, and physical strength. Read More.

Milestones: Age 3
As your child's attention span grows and her verbal skills develop, she will be better able to follow instructions and express her own needs and thoughts. The transition from toddler to preschooler, though, can be a bit bumpy. Read More.
