From Heather Corley, your Guide to Baby Products
Being a parent isn't always easy, and the recalls don't help. Many parents have expressed frustration recently at the number of recalls, and the complicated hoops they sometimes have to jump through in order to have their recalled product fixed or replaced. I recently experienced some of that frustration while trying to obtain a piece for a broken crib that had been recalled. The crib company, however, only wants to send the recall repair kits to customers whose cribs are not already broken.

What To Do When Baby Products Are Recalled
As one reader found out recently, the answer is not "throw away the whole crib." If you want to get the refund, exchange or any other fix offered by the manufacturer, the first step is to stay calm and follow their instructions.

Nap Nanny Baby Recliners Recalled
If you own a Nap Nanny baby recliner, you may just need to download new instructions and warnings. However, if it's an older version, the company may want to give you a credit to purchase a new one. One infant death is associated with this recall.

Pacifier Recall
About 40,000 Karino pacifiers sold in Texas and California are recalled because they don't meet federal safety standards. The nipple can detach, and there are some other safety issues that pose choking hazards.

CPSC Baby Sling Warning
There's been some confusion lately about the warning that CPSC issued on baby slings. While recalls were issued for only a handful of sling-style baby carriers, the CPSC warning applies to all slings. Wear that sling, but be sure you keep baby's head visible and airway clear.
