Teen Rejected from National Honor Society
Mom on the forum seeks advice: My daughter is a junior and was invited to apply for membership in the National Honor Society. When she saw the application, it was basically a list of what organizations she was involved in. While she gets great grades and has been a dedicated dancer for 10 years, she has not pursued the "traditional" school clubs. I encouraged her to write an essay from her heart that explained why she felt she wanted to be part of an organization that is supposed to be based on character and community. This is exactly what she wrote. I looked for it AFTER she got her REJECTION letter in the mail today... the letter is here... While Becca did not "make the cut" for the honor society, I am a very proud mom. Should I protest her rejection?

Denise's thoughts: I look at it this way, she has done very well and often these things are more 'popularity contests' with certain teachers who know certain students. If you protest, the worst thing that can happen is you get another 'no'. So I think you should try.

Asking our parenting community: Do you think she should protest the rejection? Why or why not? Please share your thoughts, experiences and advice in the comments area.
