Have you noticed that toys and characters for young girls are increasingly looking more grown-up, and in many cases even sexy? An interesting new story on msnbc.com notes that Strawberry Shortcake, Tinkerbell and fellow Disney fairies, and even Rainbow Brites (omigosh) have been revamped to look older and, alas, sexier. Also in this week's Parenting School Age Children Newsletter, a viral video of a victim of bullying fighting back against his attacker that shows the toll bullying can take and aggressors and victims alike; an eye-opening study that shows that children say as early as second grade that math is for boys; and some very useful tips on how to talk to children about scary and upsetting news such as the stories about the aftermath of the tsunami and earthquake that recently hit Japan.
