| | Banning Teens From Using Tanning Beds The American Academy of Pediatrics is calling for a ban on tanning beds for children and teens. They are focusing on children and teens because most people get 25 percent of their lifetime sun exposure before age 18. The AAP is saying that the exposure to the artificial ultraviolet light used in tanning beds increases the risk of melanoma and other skin cancers as the UV light produced by sunlamps and tanning beds can be 10 to 15 times more intense then the sun.
I don't feel banning teens from tanning beds is a bad idea. Like with smoking, the more the medical community learns about cancer prevention, the more we need to listen and protect our kids. Makes sense, right? What do you think? Should there be a law against teens using tanning beds? Please share your thoughts, experiences and opinions in the comments area.

Fifty-seven percent of teens in the study reported that they noticed the labels, but only 9% said the labels affected their choice of food.
I speculate that we already know how bad the food is for us before we walk in the door of the fast-food restaurant, but are committed to buy and therefore the labels have little or no impact. I also don't feel that this should be a surprise when it comes to teens. I mean, we are talking about the risk-taking time in our lives, right? I wonder how many teens ordered two boxes of fries after seeing the calorie count?
