From Heather Corley, your Guide to Baby Products
This week is all about keeping kids safe in the car, since it's Child Passenger Safety Week. I've pulled together some of my favorite car seat safety tips and resources for you. Can you find a way to improve your child's safety on the road this week?

Have Your Child's Car Seat Checked for Safety
Child Passenger Safety Week finishes up on Seat Check Saturday, which is happening on September 24 this year. You can use the state by state listings linked here to find a Seat Check Saturday event near you.

Still Room for Improvement on Car Seat Use
Safe Kids USA recently released a study of thousands of the check forms used at official car seat check events, and they've used those forms to identify areas for improvement as well as things that are improving every year.

When to Use a Top Tether
One of the areas for improvement that Safe Kids noticed in their study was top tether usage. While the tether is required for forward-facing LATCh installations, there are many other times when it can be used to improve safety. Do you know how to use the top tether on your child's car seat?

How Long Should Baby Stay Rear-Facing?
Rear-facing until age two has been big news this year, since AAP updated their policy to officially recommend it. My advice is to look for a car seat with a high rear-facing limit and use it all the way to the limit. For most kids, that means they can be rear-facing beyond age 2, which is fantastic, since they're far safer in that position.
