Trying to Get Teen Out of Bed
Frustrated Mom, A comment from 17-Year-Old Won't Wake Up, Any Advice?: So, those of you that say it's normal for a teen and don't punish them...what do you suggest? I can't get the school schedule changed this year and my son does need to get up!

Denise's thoughts: If using a consequence works by all means, set up a parenting contract with a consequence and follow through. But if not, and it is depression or something equally as troubling, you'll need to find him help. If you aren't sure, you may want to set up an appointment with his guidance counselor and see if they can help find out more about the underlying problem.

Asking our community of parents of teens: What would you do if you could not get your 17-year-old out of bed in the morning? Do you have parenting advice or tips? Please share your parenting thoughts, advice and opinions in the comments area.

CW's The Secret Circle Has Caught the Attention of Teens
If the teen blogs and internet babble is any indication, CW's The Secret Circle is going to be yet another teen television show that you may want to keep abreast of, if not watch with your teen. Written by the same people who wrote The Vampire Diaries, which is in it's third season, the Secret Circle is a little more for a younger teen crowd than the show it follows on Thursday nights. But not too young! I give it a 15+ rating myself and I'm not about to let my preteen watch it, even if she can see the episodes online at an earlier hour the next day.

The show's premiere, which was on last night and did well at setting the theme and tone in my opinion. Seeing the murder of the main character's parent occur was a little darker than I expected, but then I remembered I was watching the CW network, whom I often find will go darker with their shows. It does bring up a whole line of grief issues to talk to teens about. Otherwise, not too many surprises.

What did you think of this new teen/young adult television show? Do your think your teen will enjoy it or will they pass? Please share in the comments area.
