Teen Marriage Leads to Mental Health Disorders?
A study(link on the blog) done by the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Canada and is published in Pediatrics, found significant mental health trends common among American women who were married before the age of 18. Dr. Yann Le Strat, a scientist with CAMH stated, "Being married as a child is associated with a 41 per cent increase in the prevalence of psychiatric disorder." The most common of the disorders being mood and anxiety disorders such as panic disorder, bipolar disorder and depression.

I wonder if the next study will find out more about the women as teens, like whether or not they were troubled teens who were prone to these disorders so they were more dependent and got married instead of their marriage being the reason they have the disorders, which is what the study is seems to be suggesting? The data does agree a bit, as the teen girls were more prone to have a nicotine addiction and have a lower level of education. On a side note, did you know that the latest statistic says that close to nine per cent of women in the United States were married before they were 18-years-old? And I thought The Secret Life of an American Teenager was unrealistic... I guess not.

Even though women are still making less on the average then men, it is not a good idea to promote a young marriage to your teen. Teach your daughter to become independent. Take an interest in her abilities and talents instead of her looks or her worth to a future partner.
