From Laura K. Lawless, your Guide to French Language
Writing is to speaking as reading is to listening: writing and speaking are the active use of language - you have to actually create the language, as opposed to reading and listening which are more passive. Don't neglect your writing skills - check out these ideas.
Writing in French
Keep a French Journal
Keeping a journal is an easy way to practice French every day. Depending on your level, you can describe what you're doing today; write about what you'll do tomorrow; and/or talk about opinions, debates, and current events.

Translation
Pick a paragraph from a newspaper or book and translate it into French. This technique is especially useful if you have a similar newspaper article or French book to compare your work to.

Online Communities
The online community ideas provided in last week's "Community, part 1" issue of this newsletter are also good ways to practice writing in French, with the added bonus of having other French speakers read and correct your words.
