Teaching Teens to Cook
I was talking with my nephew on the phone the other day because he dad wasn't home from work and his mom had left already for her nighttime job and I asked him, "Are you making dinner?" He said, "Yeah... I helped." Which most likely means: mom planned it, got it ready and my nephew heated it up. This is a great first step in teaching your teen to cook. Considering my nephew is only a freshman, he is right on track to learning this important independent skill.

I suggest slowly making your teen responsible for one meal a week. Start by getting them to help either with the prep or the 'heating-up' like my nephew. Then gradually add more cooking responsibilities. The more your teen learns independent skills like cooking, the more capable he will be when he is on his own.
