This week, I'm at the ABC Kids Expo in Las Vegas, where many of the companies that manufacture baby products show off their newest creations. In talking with parents at the show and during my travels, I've noticed that a lot of parents ask the same sorts of questions about baby gear. Here are some of the most common. Do I Really Need a Lot of Stuff? Shopping for a newborn is great fun, and all of the tiny clothes and gadgets are adorably small. However, infants don't really need a lot of stuff, and probably won't notice whether you shopped for hours or just got the basics. If you're overwhelmed by the vast aisles of the baby store, try shopping for just these essentials for now to cover baby's basic needs. What Should I Do About This Recall? When one of your baby products is recalled, it's scary and often frustrating. I've heard from many parents who have tried to return recalled products to a store only to be told the store can't help them, or that they've called the recall hotlines and couldn't get through for hours. Here's how to deal with a recall with as little stress as possible. Rear-Facing for 2 Years? Are You Nuts? While we used to switch babies to forward-facing right at a year old, that standard has been updated thanks to newer research and crash data showing that babies are 5 times safer if they're rear-facing to age 2. It sounds a bit shocking, but luckily there are great car seats available today that will accommodate heavier and taller toddlers while rear-facing. Join Me On Twitter!
