Teen Mischief and Halloween Tricks - A Warning
From a mom on our forum: Please warn parents to talk to their teens about 'minor' vandalism and the possible repercussions. At this time of year, around Halloween and Homecoming, it is somewhat of a tradition to T.P. homes... Innocent fun, spirit activity to TP the homes of the football players, but this year in our town the kids have added eggs to the mix and now we have some high school teenagers having to include on their college applications - along with extracurricular activities - convictions. A simple egg can do a surprising amount of damage to the paint of a car or to the stucco of a home, and if the damage exceeds a certain $ amount it ceases to be 'innocent' fun or a 'minor' nuisance and becomes 'felony vandalism'. While it is unlikely that a conviction will result in jail time, it will result in legal costs for the teen and family, probation and especially if the teen is 18, a criminal record that will follow the teen through life and have to be noted on every job application they fill out! So please, explain to your teens the possible repercussions. Save them and your neighbors a lot of unnecessary grief.

Denise's thoughts: Thank you so much for the warning! Parents, talk to your teen. A little conversation now may save you a lot of hassle later.

Asking our parenting community: Have you ever had to deal with teen mischief problems? Please share your thoughts, experiences and advice in our comments area.
